Eaton Square Roof Terrace
A multifunctional green space to enjoy spectacular city views, entertain and unwind.
This penthouse roof terrace was bland and exposed, with no protection from sun and wind. Existing plants had died, and the space was unwelcoming and underused.
The clients wanted shelter from the sun, to connect with nature and to cook and dine al fresco, using freshly picked herbs.
We used evergreen trees and a bespoke pergola to create discrete zones; for reading under the grapevine-covered pergola, cooking and dining at the bespoke bar, and relaxing in the dappled shade of the juniper.
Planters packed with colourful perennials and swaying grasses border the area, attracting insects and birds, who incidentally, feasted on all the holly berries! The planters nearest the kitchen-cum-bar area are crammed with cooking herbs and the sedum-covered storage unit is interplanted with mint (for Pimms!).
Year-round structure and interest come from the evergreen hollies, dwarf pines and the unusual Juniper.
Our clients loved the terrace so much that they stayed at the residence over summer when they would normally go abroad!
